How KAV works and how we're paid
KAV's advisors are licensed insurance professionals. Education, a needs analysis and a policy review are free. If you choose to buy an insurance policy, the insurance company pays your advisor a commission.

What KAV does
KAV Solutions LLC is a financial education firm based in Pennsylvania. We offer:
- Free education: articles, a retirement calculator and planning checklists.
- A free Financial Needs Analysis and a free life insurance review with a licensed advisor.
- Insurance products, such as life insurance, offered through KAV's licensed advisors.
- The Partner Path: training and mentoring for people working toward an insurance license.
What KAV does not do
KAV is not a law firm and does not draft wills, trusts or powers of attorney. We help you understand these documents and get organized; an estate planning attorney drafts them.
KAV is not a tax adviser. Articles explain how tax rules work in general; for your own return or a tax decision, speak with a CPA or enrolled agent.
An insurance license covers insurance. Advice on buying or selling stocks, bonds or mutual funds requires a separate securities registration. If anyone offers you investment advice, you can check their registration on FINRA BrokerCheck and the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure site.
How KAV is paid
You never pay KAV a fee for education, a needs analysis or a policy review. If you choose to buy an insurance policy through a KAV advisor, the insurance company pays your advisor a commission. The amount depends on the product and the insurer.
A commission is a reason to be careful, so ask about it. Before you decide, ask your advisor which insurers they can offer and how they are paid on anything they suggest. Keeping the coverage you already have, or buying nothing, is always an option.
Who issues the policy
Every policy is issued by the insurance company named in the policy, not by KAV. That company sets the terms, the price and the underwriting decision, and it pays claims. Insurer names on this site identify companies whose products KAV advisors can offer; they are not endorsements of KAV by those companies.
Licensing, and how to check it
KAV advisors hold the insurance licenses required in the state or province where they work with you. KAV serves families in the United States and Canada, and an advisor can only offer insurance where they are licensed.
You can check any U.S. agent before you buy. Ask for their full name and National Producer Number (NPN), then look them up with your state insurance department. In Pennsylvania, use the Insurance Department licensee search. For other states, find your department on the NAIC's Insurance Departments page.
Our content is education, not advice
Articles, calculators, checklists and chat answers on this site are general education. They are not individualized financial, insurance, tax, legal or investment advice, and they do not consider your full situation.
Worked examples use illustrative people and numbers, not real clients, and are not projections or promises of any result. Tax limits and benefit amounts change, often every year; each article shows when it was published and updated. Our editorial standards explain how we choose sources and correct mistakes.
The Ask KAV chat assistant
The chat on this site is an automated assistant, not a person. Its answers are general education and can be wrong, so check anything important with a licensed professional. Your questions are processed by our technology provider to generate answers. Please do not type account numbers, Social Security numbers or health details into the chat.
The Partner Path
The Partner Path is training and mentoring, not a job offer or a promise of income. Partners who become licensed earn commissions paid by insurers when a client buys a policy, so income depends on that work and varies from person to person. Your state sets the licensing exam and its fees.
Your information
